How to Increase Your Gmail Security – Internet – Email

How to Increase Your Gmail Security
Protecting your Gmail account from the prying eyes of hackers requires a combination of techniques and common sense, and you can never fault Google in this area as it provides you with plenty of ways to increase your security:
1. Create your password properly. You can come up with a password with at least 8 alpha-numeric characters for your account. If you havent done that yet, you can still change your password by going to Mail Settings. When you sign up, Gmail also provides you with a password meter to determine whether the password youve chosen is weak or very strong. Your ultimate goal is the latter.
2. Sign up in a secure connection. To avoid the baits of phishers, make sure that youre checking your messages in a secure connection.
3. Select your security question. Its not really encouraged for you to write your password anywhere, or somebody may get hold of it. So you have to remember it by heart. But just to make sure you dont lose it forever, choose or create your own security question.
4. Assign a recovery e-mail. This one works the same way as the previous one: it lets you remember your Gmail password. If you forget your password, just type your selected recovery e-mail, and the password will be delivered to that inbox. You can use any e-mail addresses you like.
5. Go Incognito. This is Googles way of saying Private Browsing. Usually, when you browse, all your pages and even your message pages are saved offline as cache or cookies. The purpose is to actually make it a lot faster for you to open and surf your Gmail. However, hackers can look into your cache and cookies and steal any personal information, including your username and password. Private browsing doesnt save any of your page. To go Incognito, use Google Chrome. Click on the Wrench icon on right-hand side of the screen. Choose New Incognito Window from the list. You should receive a message saying youre about to go browsing privately.
6. Report Spam. Knowing how adaptive hackers and schemers are, Gmail cannot filter all types of spam in your mailbox, but you can help them. If you find some suspicious messages in your mailbox, dont open them. Instead tick them and press Report Spam. This also instantly removes the messages from your inbox.
